They Seldom Ask [MIXTAPE]
They Seldom Ask is the first mixtape about myself. It's 20 minutes of reminiscing over the weekend and asking myself how I felt about the first two decades of my life. You can picture it this way. After hearing tales from parents, good and bad experiences in school or work, reading widely, and learning how you're wired from your past, what do you really want? I did my best to follow every piece of advice and instruction I received growing up, and rarely got asked if I had any difficulty. It was hard to show my struggles on the outside. I even had to think twice about putting the release out for several reasons aside from doubt. The original idea was to release 10 songs, but I changed my mind. Some of the songs were too deep to share online.
From people to situations, I tried to skip sentiments and search for consequences. I didn't want to entertain melodrama by allowing my reactions to play out. Live like I was programmed. And after life steers in a direction I didn't expect, I've had to look deep to see where I went wrong. Amongst many reasons, I found it. What they seldom ask about me.
The mixtape is not perfect, or at least not how I wanted it to be. I used my phone to record, so it's right to expect the least. I had a producer, Kaizen, and a few YouTube beats put together to create this 20-minute experience of beats and repetitive moods. Regardless of what it turned out to be, I'm proud to release music I can relate to. Hopefully, a better summary of the story will help you relate.
