Song Title: Halt Change
Artist: ede (prodby Kaizen)
Lyrics
[INTRO]
Audiojournal, Entry 406
[VERSE]
Once upon a time, there was a man who couldn't rhyme
A boy who loved to lie to keep his aspirations private
His momma hated rappers and his father stood aside
Paying bills, frankly speaking these two never saw eye to eye
Occasional silent cries, his siblings couldn't pry
He had many admirers, but he was stuck inside his pride
He saw the world too differently that was that divide
Separating him from families, don't matter if they was tight
It was left unchecked for many years
He was under serious duress,
Now the results of the experiment...
Specimen shows no sign of connection
Has labelled him as the reverend, as the menace
As the leader, as the whatever that brings him relevance
Till this day, he fights the urge to change his ways (His heart is on fire)
Bleeding through his eyes (His heart is on fire)
Efiefɔ cracking smiles for success
Cheers, even us got our hands on deck
Scared of the people who've known him
Carryin' old vocal samples playin' when they near him
Availing to the responsibility of being the perfect guy
Will traumatise the hell outta him, but he's don't stop going,
Only motive remote control him
[BRIDGE]
Some hard evidence?
I question my intelligence, pat on the back
When I hear it "I'm excelllent"
The people pleaser's fragile
Take it away, I promise I'd die today
Yet the eighty thosand pests are judging my act of benevolence
Some hard evidence?
I question my intelligence, pat on the back
When I hear it "I'm excelllent"
The people pleaser's fragile
Take it away, I promise I'd die today
Yet the eighty thosand pests are judging my act of benevolence
They all hatred embedded
[VERSE]
Sometimes I think of life as just a drug prescription
Stuff gon' happen to you, send your soul some kinda message
The pharmacist overdosed me, untreatable addiction
I own some twisted feelings, I hope one day they listen
And no it's not the music, I care less of pens and pitches
It's fear and blaming witches, efiefɔ got more bills to pay now
Prolly cook my dishes
The demons that I know says they innocent
With lived experience so hear me out, listen
I'm scared of change, I'm scared to change
To be fully present
(Don't do that, Don't do that, Don't do that, Don't do that)
(Stop the chat, stop the chat, stop the chat, stop the chat, stop the chat)
About
Halt change is a first sense of clarity in the project where Louis acknowledges how he ended up in this situation. He explains how he's sacrificing his passion and happiness to please family and strangers and it was because he felt inadequate about who he truly is. In attempt to process this, he blames invisible forces from family efiefɔ (literally family members but popularised as a term for household witches, an attribute for extended family members your parents tend to dislike). The song is an audiojournal, describing Louis as a result of an experiment in the first lines. The title Halt Change is the predicament he's in, scared to change because the fear of being disliked is greater. Although he has no names or faces of who these efiefɔ are, he prefers blaming these invisible forces. It motivates him work harder to be better at pleasing people - what he calls an addiction.
